Story Time

My eyes quickly jump from his plump lips to the window, and I try to keep a straight face as I immerse myself in his silent stare. I can feel him looking right at me.. through me in fact, but I can't look back at him.
"Julie?" I say to myself in my head.
"Julie, are you listening to me? Do not look at him," I warn myself. "Do. Not."
I continue to reason with myself, eyes fixed on the glass. I know if my eyes meet his, I will fall so hard, I won't be able to get back up again...

My head and heart continue to argue with each other, and, as usual, my heart wins.

I turn to look at him..

and there he is, that sly fox, himself, grinning back at me. The moonlight paints his face - smooth black skin, plain white teeth. Then he moves and only one of his eyes shows through the darkness. His pupil catches the light and burns right back into mine. He looks at me (through me, I mean) and he says,
"Julie?"

And I say, "Yes?"

And he moves close enough for me to feel his breath on my cheek. I close my eyes, and he slides next to my ear and whispers,

"Nothing."

And plants his lips onto mine.

My whole body is hot; my eyes are closed; my mind is clear.
I know nothing at all at that moment except his lips and his hands.
and I melt right there in the car...

Later that night, he and I part ways with big eyes and racing thoughts but silent mouths. He goes one way, and I go another,

but some of me is missing..

..some of me still sits right there in the passenger seat of that car

still speechless

still enthralled

still melted

right

       into
           the
              seat...
